The year was 1940, and someone in Twentynine Palms had the right idea--to build two Spanish bungalows that embraced the romance of the desert: fresh air, plain living and a sky full of stars. Today, that vision lives on in Josh + Tam, a thoughtfully restored two-home compound set on a single parcel in the heart of Twentynine Palms. A personal project of Krieglelein Design, the creative team behind the interiors of the nearby Ramsey 29 motel, the homes have been carefully reimagined with an emphasis on creativity, simplicity, and the quiet rhythms of desert living. Though nearly identical in footprint, each home carries its own distinct mood. Josh opens naturally to morning light and the built-in dining banquette, while Tam feels slightly more secluded, with a stronger connection to its surrounding courtyard and landscape. Original vaulted ceilings create volume and light throughout, while built-in dining banquettes, sleeping nooks, curated original and vintage artwork, and layered textiles give the interiors warmth and character. Outdoor living remains central to the experience. Mature desert landscaping, ocotillo-covered pergolas, and a cedar soaking tub create a series of private outdoor spaces designed for gathering, retreat, and long desert evenings outdoors. Each home is separately fenced with its own entrance, offering flexibility for personal use, guests, or hospitality income.
